IRONHACK’s prework. Challenge 3: Usability Evaluation and Site Redesign

1. USER TYPE

I have choosen a family whose ages are between 25 and 55 years. They are going to do a trip to Pekin, China. They will departure from Madrid on 15 august and they will come back on 31 august.

2. RESEARCH

They have organized their trip by the following points:

· International airport of Pekin

· 1 yuan = 0,12€

· 15 august — 31 august

· They will move by taxi, metro, walk.

· They will dress up tracksuit or comfortable clothing.

· They don’t need to have any specific vaccination.

3. BENCHMARKING

The next table is a benchmark of the different apps (Kayak, Skyscanner, Trip Advisor and Hopper). I have made it from the 10 heuristics principles by Jakob Nielsen.

Green is a “good valuation”, yellow “make an improvement” and orange “it’s deficient”.

4. TESTING

I have target 3 users from a nuclear family. First of all, they took 5 seconds to have a look at the home screen.

Then they have to:

· Enter the dates of the trip

· Search a flight

· Choose a flight

· Search a hotel

· Lay down filters and preferences

· Choose a hotel

5. RESULTS

After the 5 seconds test all of them known what the app was for and how it works.

The results when they have done the booking are the following:

· There’s no option given to the user that wants to book a flight and a hotel at the same time, it has to be booked separately.

· The search button isn’t very intuitive, and the user can spend a lot of time searching for this option.

· They think there are too much information about irrelevant things on the front page.

· When they are going to book a hotel, it isn’t possible to filter by Distance from the center of the city or they didn’t find it.

6. REDESIGN WIREFRAMES

CONCLUSIONS

This was the most difficult challenge I have done, but I liked doing this challenge because it mix a research with design. It was difficult trying to guess what users were thinking and what they need.
